Prior to my lifestyle change, my asthma was so severe that trips to high elevations left me struggling to breathe, severely limiting my ability to take anything except short strolls without the use of an inhaler. Now, I can easily hike, ski and explore to my heart's content.
My journey to a whole foods plant-based (WFPB) lifestyle began when my mother, a healthy woman in her late 60s, was diagnosed with a degenerative terminal illness, Alzheimer's Disease. After my 3rd child began solid food and became chronically ill, I knew I had to find out why my two loved ones were so sick.
After reading the "The China Study" and watching Forks Over Knives, I enrolled into the Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition program. This coursework was the gift we needed to change our lifestyle. In addition to my son improving his health dramatically, my health improved too. He was able to come off all prescription medications, 6 in total (saving $150/month in copays), and leads a healthy normal life. For me, the unexpected benefits included
an end to my 30 year battle with allergies and asthma,
removing all 4 prescription medications (saving $100/month),
a normal BMI without counting or measuring anything,
47 point drop in total cholesterol,
a normal TSH level,
35 point drop in triglycerides,
improvements in my blood pressure readings,
improved mental health, and
many more positive side effects that I'm happy to share.
